Jon：Hey, Tiff. I bought a second-hand car last night.
           嗨，Tiff，我昨晚買了一部二手車。
           Guess what？
           嗨，你知道嗎?

Tiff：What happened?
           發生了什麼事?

Jon：The power supply failed without warning in the middle of the           road.
         電力系統沒有預警地就在馬路中間故障了。

Tiff：Oh, that’s terrible. And then?
         喔，真遭糕。然後呢?

Jon：I had to go to the office immediately, but the mechanic
          failed to repair the engine in time.
           我必須立刻去辦公室，但是技工沒有及時修好引擎。
          So, I was late, and I lost  my job.
           所以我遲到了。我丟掉我的工作。

Tiff：Oh, wow! That’s really really terrible.
           喔，哇! 那真是遭糕。

Jon：Oh, that's all right.
           喔，沒關係。
          I was always doing the same work and I’ve gotten tired of it.
           我一直都在作同樣的工作，我已經厭煩它了。
          So, taking a break from my job is acctually good for me,           except I don’t have any money anymore.
           所以從我的工作暫時修休息一下事實上對我好，除了我再也沒錢了
          之外。
          (註：taking a break from my job是動名詞片語當作名詞片語使用，是子句的                      主詞(請參見文法書 p.150)。
                 except在本句是當作連接詞使用。)
